A popular conversion for the early 6v Jeeps was to convert to a 12v electrical system. They have introduced a Heavy Duty Gear Reduction 12v starter for the Willys L-head and F-head 134, L-Head 226, Jeep 225 V6, and the Jeep 350 V8 (Vigilante) engines. These starters are smaller and lighter than the OEM starters and feature a 4:1 gear reduction. These are the Key start type, so that you can do away with the floor start mechanism. Prices for new starters start at $225 and they also offer rebuilt units from $150. This is a great way to update your old Jeep and solve all your starting problems.
